New Staff Training

Six Modules of the One Year Training

New Staff Training

To equip new staff with the skills and knowledge needed for effective ministry, IFM offers a comprehensive New Staff Training Program that combines mentorship, practical experience, and spiritual formation. The program is designed to prepare staff for long-term impact in international student ministry.

The following are the six modules of the new staff training program:

1. Mentorship and Discipleship

New staff members are paired with experienced IFM leaders who provide guidance, encouragement, and spiritual support. Through regular mentorship meetings and intentional discipleship, staff will:

  • Develop their personal ministry vision.
  • Gain insights into the unique challenges and joys of international student ministry.
  • Be equipped with essential spiritual disciplines for long-term ministry effectiveness.
  • Learn how to navigate cultural transitions and personal growth in full-time ministry.

2. Practical Ministry Skills

The training program offers hands-on experience in key areas, ensuring new staff are well-prepared for ministry demands:

  • Bible Study Leadership: Learning how to facilitate culturally relevant, engaging Bible discussions.
  • Event Planning: Organizing events such as welcome dinners and retreats to foster community and spiritual conversations.
  • Volunteer Management: Recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers to maximize ministry impact.
  • Administrative Competence: Developing skills in program management, logistics, and communications.

3. Empowering Student Leadership

IFM embraces a student-led, staff-supported model, and new staff will be trained to empower students to take ownership of ministry initiatives. This includes:

  • Identifying and mentoring student leaders.
  • Encouraging students to lead Bible studies and outreach efforts.
  • Creating a culture of student engagement and leadership development.

4. Church Partnership and Integration

New staff will receive training in building partnerships with local churches to:

  • Connect students to local churches for discipleship and community.
  • Facilitate collaboration between IFM and church leadership.
  • Encourage students to participate in church life and service opportunities.

5. Contextual and Cross-Cultural Understanding

International student ministry requires cultural sensitivity and understanding. Staff will be equipped to:

  • Communicate the gospel in ways that resonate with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Address challenges such as homesickness, cultural adjustment, and interfaith dialogue.
  • Develop cultural intelligence to engage students with empathy and respect.

6. Support Raising Training

Since IFM operates as a faith-based organization, staff members are encouraged to raise their financial support through a network of churches, friends, and ministry partners. The support-raising training will equip new staff with the tools and confidence needed to build a sustainable financial foundation for their ministry, including:

  • Biblical Foundations of Support Raising.
  • Practical Support Raising Strategies.
  • Building Long-Term Partnerships.
All new staff will be required to go through the 2-week The God Ask support-raising training based on the book The God Ask.
